    PART 3 : PURPOSE, RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACTIVITIES 

    3.1 Purpose (mission, mandate) of the organisation : 

    LPA’s main aim is to promote safety through education, training and consultancy. It’s main broad objectives are :
    • To publicise causes and magnitude of losses and create an awareness 

    • of the need for loss prevention. 
    • To provide education, training, consultancy and advisory services.
    • To build and maintain a data bank on loss prevention.
    • The Association work involves both the educational and engineering

    • aspects of safety.

      Information: 

      Information centre consisting of over 6000 books includes codes, standards 
      & reports. The centre also subscribes to 50 periodicals  and  receives latest news  bulletins  and  reprints  from  like-minded  organisations  world  wide. 
      Subject bibliographies are compiled and information search service  offered 
      to members on request. 

      Technical guidance: 

      Specialised technical service consisting of  hazard  identification,  evaluation 
      and control, conducting safety audits, advice on selection and installation of personal protective equipment. 

      Training & education

      Conducts training programmes, seminars and conferences on different aspects of safety and loss prevention. 

        Workplace inspection:    Subjective evaluation of the workplace.
