PROGRAMME PERSPECTIVE

 

Section 41 C(b) of the Factories Act, 1948 as amended in 1987 has imposed specific responsibilities on the occupier in relation to hazardous process which states that every occupier of the factory involving  any hazardous process shall appoint persons who posses qualification and experience in handling hazardous substances and are competent to supervise such handling within the factory and the Chief Inspector may require the supervisor to under go training in health and safety.

 

In view of the requirement, this one month Certificate Course has been started at Regional Labour Institute, Chennai to provide an opportunity to gain insight of safety system and procedures.  RLI, Chennai is conducting this course for Southern Region.  After this course, the participants will be able to discuss/identify hazards and their control that will result in the great degree of risk reduction.

 

 

METHODOLOGY AND COURSE CONTENTS:

 

The course will be conducted through lectures, discussions, case studies, laboratory exercise, relevant film show and factory visits.  The participants are required to prepare to report on Factory Visit as a requirement under the syllabus.  On completion of the course attendees will be able to answer questions on the following topics during certification examination.

DATES AND TIMINGS

 

The course will be conducted from 1st November to 30th November 2006. The teaching at the institute will be from 10.00 am to 5.00 pm.

 

 
FACULTY

The faculty consists Experts from various disciplines of the Institute, specialists from industries, different institutes and Government Departments.

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS FOR ADMISSION

 

i)              Bachelor’s degree with chemistry or diploma in chemical engineering or Technology with not less than 5 years experience.

 

ii)             A post graduate Degree in chemistry or  a Bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering or Technology with not less than two years experience.

 

NOTE:

The experience stipulated above shall be in process, operation and maintenance in chemical Industry.

 

FEES AND OTHER EXPENSES

1. Institution Fee :

Rs.1000 /- (fee once paid is not refundable) The fee is payable along with the application for nomination or before joining the course by a crossed Demand Draft drawn in favour of the Director in- charge, Regional Labour Institute, Chennai.

 

2.Other expenses:

 

Rs.1500/- IN CASH per participant to meet the expenditure towards the cost of course material, Honorariums to guest faculty other stationary expenditures etc. is to be paid on the First Day of the Course to the Managing Committee elected amongst the participants.  The Managing Committee will issue receipt for the amount at the end of the course. Participants will make their own arrangements for lunch, dinner and breakfast.

 

a)           The expenses for the visit to the factories will be borne by the organization of the participants.

 

b)           Lodging charges at Institute’s  Hostel at the rate of RS. 20/- per head per day  (for those who opt to stay in Hostel).  Lodging charges are payable at the institute in cash in advance for entire period of stay.

 

c)            Rs.1000/- as caution deposit (Refundable) for availing library and Laboratory facilities is also payable.

HOSTEL ACCOMMODATION

 

Limited Non–family Single bed accommodation in a double-bedded room is available in the Institute’s Hostel for outstation participants at a nominal charge of Rs.20/- per head per day on first-cum-first served basis.  The Hostel does not have any service facilities.  Those desirous of hostel accommodation may indicate while sending the Nomination. The charges for accommodation are to be borne by the individuals themselves.

 

NOMINATIONS

 

Nominations as per the enclosed format  together with the Crossed Demand Draft covering Institution fee of RS. 1000/- per participant drawn in favour of the Director in charge, Regional Labour Institute, Chennai may be sent to the Director In-charge, Regional labour Institute, TTTI post, Adyar, Chennai-600 113 on or before 24th October 2006.  Application should be accompanied by attested copies of certificates of qualification and experience and duly forwarded by the sponsoring organization.  The candidate should produce the Certificates in original at the time of admission.  The decision of the institute in respect of selection of candidate will be final.

 

LOCATION OF THE INSTITUTE

The Institute is located at No.1, Sardar Patel Road, Adyar, Chennai-113 and is situated opposite Central Leather Research Institute (CLRI) and adjacent to Madhya Kailash Temple. Opposite to the Kasturibai Nagar Railway Station (MRTS).
